Welcome...

Welcome to Fowl Suppers of Saskatchewan.

Thank you for visiting this site -- if you have used this site in previous years, we do hope you found the information useful and informative.

We hope you find the new layout of the site easier to use in locating the fowl suppers in your area.

So far this fall we have taken in eight suppers, and they are not over yet!

The food at all of them has been excellent, and is a testament to the expertise of each one who has had a hand in the preparation.  In a lot of cases however, we felt that the crowds were somewhat smaller than last year. Hopefully in the future attendance will pick up, and people will continue to support these delicious banquets.

As McLean did not have their customary "Thanksgiving weekend" supper in 2011, we decided to partake of the weekend turkey at one of the local Regina restaurants.

We really were disappointed in what the "professionals" presented, as it was in no way comparable to what was always provided at McLean or any of the other "fowl suppers" we have become accustomed to.  We really did miss the McLean feast, and do hope it will be offered again next year!

This year we found there were also several other of the "usuals" that were not offering a supper.  While we totally understand how much work and organization it takes to put these delicious feasts on, we of course do hope that they are back in business in 2012, and will do our best to support them.

As a quick run-down of the suppers we attended, we offer the following observations:

St. George's Orthodox:

Great as always -- excellent tender turkey, dressing, and cabbage rolls and all the trimmings. Very well organized and managed. Crowds seemed to be smaller this year, so there were a lot of folks who missed an awesome meal!

Kedleston Beach:

Again, the usual wonderful meal, great pies, and the evening was complete with fabulous door prizes! The event was organized very well, and the hall decorations themselves are worth the price of admission!  Just a nice country drive from the city, and it's all held in the beautiful camp setting right beside the lake.  We noticed that some even took their meals outdoors and enjoyed them at the picnic tables near the water!

St. James Anglican:

Excellent meal as always -- good work!  Everything very hot and delicious.  Very well organized, and everyone left very full!

Ukrainian-Orthodox Ladies:

This one is right up there at the top of our list, as the cabbage rolls are a big drawing card for us.  Great meal again this year, and everything organized and handled very professionally.

Lumsden Lions Club:

Roast beef -- excellent roast beef, to be exact!  Awesome oven-baked potatoes, and all the trimmings! Great meal all around, and it was so good to see the young people pitching in and so efficiently handling the coffee, tea and water refills, and doing the table bussing.  Very, very well organized!

Edgeley:

Fantastic as always -- tender, tender turkey, great veggies etc etc, and everything so piping HOT !!  Good crowd as usual -- even better than last year -- good to see.   All very well organized, right down to the parking!  Good job Edgeley!

Edenwold:

Ahhh -- the hot German potatoe salad -- the drawing card for us at this one!  Great meal, and cabbage rolls too!  Excellent selection of pies, and all very well organized. Again this year it looked like a full house, which was really good to see. A fund-raiser for the community which we are only too happy to support.

Pense:

Although the cooks did their usual great job and the meal was excellent, the organizing left something to be desired.  People were continually heading down to have their meal totally out of turn -- in other words, they were jumping the queue, and no-one was checking ticket numbers to put a stop to it.

It appeared that some groups were told to just proceed straight down as when they came in the front door they headed directly down to eat!

Questions posed to those in charge brought no satisfaction, nor even empathy, so we left thoroughly frustrated and annoyed. Needless to say, we will bypass that experience next year!

Should we get to any more suppers, I will attempt to post an overview of those as well.
